Building Trust with New Parents During Their Very First Week

The first week of a new enrollment is incredibly traumatic for a first-time parent. They are handing their infant or toddler over to strangers and walking away for eight hours. Trust is not built during a slick, rehearsed center tour. Trust is forged entirely in those first five days of drop-offs.

You have to over-communicate during week one. Do not wait for them to message you asking how their child is doing. Have your lead teacher send a smiling photo through your parent app by 10:00 AM on the dot. A simple picture of their child successfully playing with blocks will instantly lower the parent's blood pressure for the rest of the workday.

Furthermore, implement a mandatory Friday afternoon check-in call. Call the new parent from your office just to ask how they feel the first week went. It takes three minutes, but it completely solidifies their confidence in your leadership and makes them feel like a valued partner in their child's education.
