Having a massive waitlist feels absolutely wonderful for a director's ego. However, a stagnant list of names on a paper clipboard does absolutely nothing for your bottom line. Parents are anxious, and they often put their names on five different waitlists in town at the exact same time. When you finally call them three months later to offer a spot, they have usually already enrolled somewhere else.
You must actively manage and nurture your waitlist. Send those families a specialized monthly email update featuring photos of the classrooms. Invite waitlisted families to your center's seasonal events so they feel like part of the community before they ever pay a dollar in tuition. When a spot opens up and you call them, they already know your teachers' names and have seen your center in action. A highly engaged waitlist acts as a massive insurance policy against unexpected mid-year unenrollments, keeping your revenue predictable month after month.
