We talk about burnout a lot in the early childhood education space, but directors rarely recognize the symptoms in themselves. You might think you are just having a tough week, but true burnout runs much deeper than simple fatigue.
It starts when you begin dreading the morning alarm clock. It escalates when you find yourself snapping at a loyal teacher over a minor paperwork error. The final stage is total apathy, where you stop caring about curriculum updates or center culture entirely. If you are experiencing these signs, you cannot simply push through it. Pushing through it will eventually destroy the business you worked so hard to build. You must immediately delegate your daily operational tasks and schedule an honest conversation with a trusted mentor or therapist. Your center cannot thrive under your leadership if you are running on empty, and recognizing that truth early is the bravest thing a director can do.
